Dan holds PhDs in cognitive psychology and business administration and was previously the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Behavioural Economics at MIT for a decade. His TED talks are world-renowned, with over 10 million views!
A distinguished author, Dan has written many best-selling books such as ‘Predictably Irrational’, ‘The Upside of Irrationality’ and ‘The Honest Truth About Dishonesty”. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and Boston Globe. Dan’s talk will delve into the truly illogical world of personal finance to help us better understand why we make bad financial decisions, and impart the knowledge needed to make better ones: -Why does paying for things often feel like it causes physical pain? -Does prepaying for a holiday make it seem better value? Dan’s talk will examine our irrational behaviour and how it interferes with our best intentions when it comes to managing our own finances. Additionally, Dan will be giving an insight into his new book ‘Small Change: Money Mishaps and How to Avoid Them’. Hardback copies will be available for £ 16.99 before and after the talk. There will also be a Q&A session for attendees to ask questions related to the talk, Dan’s new book, and any other aspects of his professional career. This talk is open to EVERYONE, and will be of particular importance to anyone interested in psychology and behavioural economics, and to those who are interested in saving and spending smarter! The talk will cover the financial choices of both individuals and businesses, and so students thinking about pursuing a career in finance will also find this talk very useful.
