Rise of the Machines - Dr Ha Joon Chang

​The Economist’s Society is excited to host our next speaker, Dr Ha Joon Chang.

​Dr Ha-Joon Chang is a South Korean institutional economist specialising in development economics. He studied at the Seoul National University Department of Economics and also the University of Cambridge, where he is currently a research fellow. 

He has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, as well as to Oxfam and various United Nations agencies. 

Dr Chang is the author of several policy books, most notably Kicking Away the Ladder: Development Strategy in Historical Perspective and 27 Things They Didn’t Tell You About Capitalism. 

His talk is titled Rise of the Machines – The Political Economy of Automation, and will delve into how technology will affect our jobs, the economy and the way the world operates as whole.
