This year, we are pleased to announce that all of our guest academic speakers are of such high caliber, that we have opened up our academic events to schools in the surrounding area, as well as any other university, college or institution. Kenneth Clarke

Kenneth Clarke is one of the UK's most famous politicians. He has been an MP for Rushcliffe since 1970 and is a former chancellor of the exchequer, home secretary and education secretary. Under Clarke's reign as chancellor, the UK economy was able to recover from the recession of the early 90's. Clarke was able to reduce the UK budget deficit from a whopping  £50.8 billion in 1993 to £15.5 billion in 1997.

Simon Ruda

​Simon Ruda is Head of Home Affairs, Security and International Development at the Behavioural Insights Team. He has worked on the application of behavioural insights with numerous organisations, in addition to Central Government, in the UK and overseas, such as the World Bank, UN, British Army and Metropolitan Police Service. Prior to joining the Behavioural Insights Team, Simon worked for the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office before that. He is a trained qualitative researcher, having worked for a leading marketing strategy consultancy before he joined Government – at which he focused on influencing consumer behaviour.

Lord Skidelsky

Lord Skidelsky is an economic historian and is most famous for his biography on the great economist John Maynard Keynes. Lord Skidelsky has also had a prolific political career which includes being a founding member of the Social Democratic Party and being Chief opposition spokesman in the Lords for the Conservative party.

George Buckley

George Buckley has been the chief UK economist at Deutsche Bank for ten years. His main work has been on forecasting the economy and he has presented his views on radio, TV and in the national press. Dr Buckley’s insights and experiences will demonstrate the value of economic expertise to the world’s top financial institutions.

Syed Kamall

Syed Kamall has been representing London as a Conservative MEP since 2005. In 2013, he was elected leader of the Conservative MEPs and most recently he was elected Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. Mr Kamall is currently running as a Conservative candidate for London Mayor. His views on international trade, foreign investment and taxation base the foundation of a great talk on wealth creation, a very current and debated topic.

Andy Haldane

Andy Haldane joined the Bank of England in 1989 and is now the Chief Economist and the Executive Director of Monetary Analysis and Statistics. He has worked in different divisions such as international finance, market infrastructure and systemic risk assessment. In 2014 he was among the world’s 100 most influential people by Time Magazine. He is also the co-founder of “Pro Bono Economics” whose goal is to help charities by providing economic expertise.

Evan Davis

Evan Davis is an Economist and BBC presenter. Since acting as the BBC Chief Economics correspondent between 2001 and 2008, he has presented Dragons Den. More recently he has taken over from Jeremy Paxman as the presenter of Newsnight. He has also presented documentaries such as "Mind the Gap: London vs the Rest" which explores the reasons behind the divergence of the London economy to the rest of the UK. He has also written a book called "Made in Britain: How the Nation Earns Its Living".

Kaushik Basu

​Kaushik Basu is the Senior-Vice President and Chief Economist at the World Bank. He is also the C. Marks Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics at Cornell University. He has published numerous research papers and books on topics ranging from the Indian Economy to influencing exchange rates without affecting reserves.
